National Health CARE? or National Health INSURANCE?
When this issue is presented on Big Media it’s as if National Health Care and National Health Insurance are the same thing. They’re not. Insurance Companies make money by denying claims and by making it difficult for people to collect, so if you think the US has a health care crisis now, well, I’m telling you that you ain’t seen nothing yet.
The NY Times article tells a story of greed and avarice in the insurance industry among companies issuing “Long Term Care” policies which will supposedly pay for Nursing Homes and similar treatment when an elderly person becomes too disabled to take care of themselves. But the amount of complaints to regulatory agencies regarding unfairly denied claims is staggering. “In depositions and interviews, current and former employees at Conseco, Bankers Life and Penn Treaty described business practices that denied or delayed policyholders’ claims for seemingly trivial reasons. Employees said they had been prohibited from making phone calls to policyholders and that claims had been abandoned without informing policyholders. Such tactics, advocates for the elderly say, are becoming common throughout the industry.” And why not? If the Insurance Company denies the claim long enough the person dies and the claim goes away, which is much better for the bottom line of the company.
Why does anyone think it will be any different if National Health INSURANCE is mandated? This is just another money grab by and handout to another bunch of US corporations. And if you ask any doctor if the Insurance Industry has helped improve the quality of US health care, I’m sure you’ll get an earful.
