NSTA Burying the online Evidence of Big Oil Ties

According to Laurie David, the author of an op ed piece in the Washington Post last week about the National Science Teacher’s Association’s dubious ties to Big Oil, the NSTA has been ripping webpages out by the roots, and editing out all the evidence of their ties to money donors such as ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, ConocoPhillips and the American Petroleum Institute. Laurie states, “New evidence flatly contradicts statements NSTA has made in defense of its suspect partnerships, and efforts appear to be underway to wipe out online evidence showing that what the oil industry got in exchange was the group’s imprimatur on classroom videos, teaching guides, and other “educational” materials that play down threats like global warming and play up the glories of continued oil dependence.”

It’s amazing that educators who are supposedly savvy to the ways of science and technology would think that destroying a webpage showing evidence of Big Oil Ties would hide the the fact that they’re hugely behoden to Big Oil and have let the Oil Companies write the science curriculum that is being taught in our schools.

All of us who have been on the web for any length of time know about the wayback machine and google cached pages! And that’s not to mention all the print material that’s floating around out there, the pdf files that people have dowloaded and printed out, etc. etc. etc. And of course, the doggedly determined muckraker Laurie David has found many of the hidden pages, though I’m sure there is more out there to find. Way to go, Laurie! Keep digging!

And shame on you, NSTA, for putting yourselves in this reprehensible position, and for then trying to cover up the truth! Geez, you NSTA idiots, NIXON did a better job of covering up than you did. And these are the idiots who have been entrusted with the science education of US children? I don’t know which is worse, their stupidity in this pathetic attempt at a coverup or their taking dough from the Oil Companies and tweaking the curriculum in the first place.

There are SBA loans for this. And I understand for some the word SBA means Slow Bureaucratic Paperwork. I hear it loud and clear.
