Taking a HARD look at the Business of Politics

The Plog Politicians love to hate.

Internet Censorship just doesn’t work if you’re a techie

Take the case of Wikileaks.org, the Premier WhistleBlower Website, which just had its domain name shut down by court order at the behest of a Cayman Islands Bank working through the American Court System so that people in the US wouldn’t be able to see the docs on their site that a whistleblower posted, and implicating them of participating in crimes. Everyone in the tech community already knows where to find Wikileaks (the link is the IP of the mirror server in Sweden, outside US court jurisdiction.) The bank, Bank Julius Baer, and its Cayman Islands subsidiary have been implicated in allegedly laundering money by documents posted on wikileaks.org. There are other WikiLeaks Mirrors with the Bank Julius Baer Documents.

Bottom line is that when stuff like this happens, it just focuses attention on the Organization trying to do the Supressing, and on fact that the US Court System, with the Bushies in Charge, is more Repressive than any Third World Junta, despite our First Amendment Protections, and this is Censorship of the Internet, pure and simple. I just hope Big Media doesn’t ignore this rather huge story about yet another trashing of the Constitution of the United States. Guess it depends what Britney did this week.

I wonder, if they do succeed in getting the site taken down, if they’re going to go after Google’s cached copies of the docs. Well, even if they do, I’m sure it’s on a million hard drives by now. It’ll be tough to put THAT genie back in the bottle. And the idiocy of this court order is that they just turned it into a PR nightmare. I imagine that any of their banking clients who can’t afford the scrutiny have already YANKED their ill gotten gains out of that bank or are in the process of doing so. Can we say bank run?
