The Iraq Vote, the right thing squeaks through
Though I’m very glad the vote on the House floor yesterday to set a pullout date for the War in Iraq, I have a lot of mixed feelings about the process.
First of all, there are Democrats who voted against the bill because it didn’t pull the troops out fast enough???? I want to bitchslap every single one of you. Hard. We, the people, finally get the chance, with a Dem majority, to make a real change in Washington and you folks are quibbling about a freaking DATE? Shame on you all, and a huge bitchslap!
Second- you Republicans who aren’t LISTENING to your constituents. We, the people, want this war over with. Your vote against this bill is a vote that isn’t representing the wants and needs of the vast majority of your constituency, the people you are paid to represent, which deserves a hard bitchslap. At the polls. Obviously you didn’t learn a thing last November.
Third is the politics as usual vote buying that happened to get this thing passed, which DIDN’T WORK. There’s $24 Billion added to this bill to buy votes, $24 Billion that has nothing to do with military spending. Some of that money was to buy Republican Votes, which is bad enough, but the fact that only two Republicans voted yes on the bill (who would have anyway) is even worse, since it appears that some Republicans may have misrepresented what they would do to get the dough for their districts. BITCHSLAP! And much worse that Dem votes may have needed to be bought. Double BITCHSLAP!
Did I mention I’m happy the bill passed? Not that it isn’t going to get vetoed, but at least it hopefully wiped the smirk off Dubya’s puss, and sent a strong message. I doubt he expected to see it pass, since he seems to have such a Messiah complex. Though somehow I doubt it’ll put a dent in his overall strategy to rape and pillage the American Treasury for the benefit of his buddies, some of whom are probably body bag manufacturers.
