FCC hears The People speak out against Media Consolidation in Harrisburg
Though there was very little notice of the meeting itself, and the venue wasn’t announced until the very last minute, over 300 people still turned up at the third of the six promised FCC Public Hearings on the subject of Media Consolidation to voice their concerns over the current state of the Media. Further media consolidation and merger is bad for local and diverse voices, was the overriding message from the people who spoke out at the hearing. Broadcasters tried to limit those voices by demanding that people who wanted entry to the hearing should show ID and their “local affiliation” in order to attend, which I find the height of irony considering that all you can hear on their stations is Anna Nicole Smith this and Brittney that instead of the local news many of us would prefer.
