Verizon, Right to Choice and Net Neutrality
Last month AT&T censored Pearl Jam on their website when an anti-Bush statement was made. This is the same AT&T that helped the NSA illegally tap our phones. This week Verizon blocked text messages from the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) on their Cellphone network. Verizon also allowed the NSA to illegally tap our phones on their network.
If these two incidents don’t point out the DIRE NEED for Net Neutrality Laws to be reinstituted on the Internet and introduced on cellphone networks, then I don’t know what would.
Phones, Cellphones and the Internet should be nothing more than a DUMB PIPE. This is a UTILITY. The electric company doesn’t dictate to us the type of appliance we can plug in, as long as it conforms to a certain standard. Same with the gas company, water company, etc. They can’t tell us how to use what we purchase. So why is it that the Big Telecomms think they can CENSOR our internet and phone use???
It’s way past time for us to slap these arrogant telecomm corporations down for all the shenanigans they’ve pulled and all the money they’ve stolen from US taxpayers. WE own the pipes. WE paid for the pipes (that they never upgraded, despite us paying for the upgrades.) And there must be serious oversight built into the laws.
Save the Internet is running an email campaign to let our Legislators know how we feel about Telecomm Censorship on the Internet and Cellphone networks. Please take a minute or two to email your congresspeople on this issue. Only if Congress hears an overwhelming shout from us will they pressure the FCC to put Net Neutrality in place.
