What we can expect from a Non-Neutral Internet

PennPIRG has posted an article reporting that the AT&T/Cingular network is blocking calls to free conference call services such as FreeConferenceCall.com. This free conference call service competes directly with Cingular’s pay for play conference calling service. The free conference call is a legal and legitimate service. The access numbers are legal and legitimate access numbers that have been paid for by the service. And AT&T/Cingular customers are using their own paid for minutes to access the service. This move by AT&T/Cingular is not only another money grab, but is also anti-consumer, and would be illegal if they blocked these access numbers from landlines, but since the cellular network is non neutral and not subject to common carriage rules this move seems to be legal on their part.

I can just imagine what they’ll do on the internet if the internet becomes a non neutral network.
