Telecomms buy immunity. Why does this not surprise me?

According to the NY Times this morning, Senator John D Rockefeller IV, the man who, as “chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, emerged last week as the most important supporter of immunity in devising a compromise plan with Senate Republicans and the Bush administration” received over $42,000 in campaign funding from Verizon and AT&T.

Of course, he denies that the dough had anything to do with his advocacy, even though the timing of the fundraisers was very convenient.

Meanwhile, it’s come out that Qwest was targeted for retaliation for not playing along with the NSA illegal wiretap program.

So I’m thinking that Orwell should have titled his book “2007″ instead of “1984″.
