Taking a HARD look at the Business of Politics

The Plog Politicians love to hate.

Representative Dent votes against the Environment again.

The Hardrock Mining and Reclamation Act was just passed despite Charlie Dent voting against it. I really don’t understand how this guy got voted back in last election. He votes with Bush and against the Environment and the needs of his constituents in most things (such as Iraq.) This House bill overhauls environmental standards applied to mining, finances abandoned mine site clean-up, and charges royalties for hardrock mines located on federal lands, all things that are desirable for our environment.

It’s even more amazing when you know that one of the most toxic mine sites in the US is just a short distance away, and is the cause of hundreds of acres of deforestation and heavy metal poisoning, as well as the compromising of our water supply, since the superfund site is in the Lehigh River Watershed.

Could it be that Charlie Dent is being financed by those either mining or using coal? There isn’t a day that goes by that a huge freight train with car upon car of coal passes through Easton on its way to the Power Plant up in Portland PA. That’s the one that FirstEnergy says is primarily gas fired. Uh huh. No wonder our Air Quality here in Northampton County is abominable. But so what if kids get asthma, huh, Charlie? So what if senior citizens have trouble breathing here in Northampton County on certain days. They don’t have the funds to contribute to your campaign chest, so what difference does it make?

I really appreciate the different backgrounds of the people who spoke. We had your entrepreneur, we had your academic, we had your corporate leader, we just had plain old citizens show up.
