Republicans, conservation, environmentalism, CREA, and Teddy Roosevelt
The New West News has an interesting article this week, which discusses the bass-ackwardness of the Republican pols and their thinking (or lack thereof) on conservation and the environmentalist climate in the US today - in which Todd Wilkinson asks, “Is it a contradiction or, closer to the point, is it mutually exclusive to be both a committed Republican AND a devoted environmentalist?”
Ranging from airplane seatmates to Italia Federici and CREA, to Jack Abramoff, the article eventually winds up with Teddy Roosevelt IV - and ends up here: “As mentioned earlier, there is a bonafide conservation organization to which Theodore Roosevelt IV belongs as a lifetime member: Republicans for Environmental Protection. “REP represents the very best of the Republican Party. It’s pragmatic,” Roosevelt said in a testimonial.”
As a citizen of the Intermountain West, I find this online newspaper has far more to speak to me about than most of the rest of the news industry.

Geez, I included a link to a newspaper you like?
You’re right, quality of articles on that website are high. Very well thought out, well researched, and even if I don’t agree with everything it shows me a different point of view, which is always productive.
Great article about yet another Abramoff front. I’m glad he balanced it by offering the alternative of a TRUE Republican environmental organization, one that is doing good work, and puts the lie to the oft made charge that “greenies are communists” and worse. Any person who has kids or grandkids should be Green, no matter their party affiliation. It just makes sense that we should pass on something to our kids that’s worth passing on.

Well, we DO occasionally agree on something!
I was extremely impressed by REP; it had been several years since I’d looked at them, and they’ve honestly continued doing exactly as they should. The organization is a credit to “greenies” AND Republicans.
