A Poll from the Wall St. Journal
Republicans can spin all they want, but when the Wall Street Journal (pdf) says the Republican Party is not doing well in public perception, then it’s most likely true, since the Wall Street Journal is not known as a hotbed of liberalism.
This is a pretty fair poll, from what I can see. The questions do not “push” an answer, are simple, clear and concise. Here are a few of the questions and answers. I’ve only supplied the answers as of 10/13-16/06, rather than the ones of earlier polls. Please read the above pdf if you wish to compare.
Question- In general, do you approve or disapprove of the job that George W. Bush is doing as president? 38% approve, 57% disapprove, and 5% are undecided.
Question- In general, do you approve or disapprove of the job that Congress is doing? 16% approve, 75% disapprove, 9% are undecided.
Question- Has what you have seen and heard over the past few weeks made you feel more favorable, less favorable, or had no effect on your feelings about possibly having the Republicans maintain the majority in Congress? More favorable 14%, less favorable 47%, no effect 35%, have not seen/heard enough to say 2%, not sure 2%.
Question- Based on what you have seen happening in Iraq over the course of the past month, do you feel more optimistic or more pessimistic about the way things are going in Iraq? 20% are more optimistic, 68% are less optimistic, 9% no difference, 3% not sure.
I think the Republican Party has been bitchslapping themselves . . .
