It’s going to be tough for the Republicans
Between the Illegal Wiretaps, Republicans not just looking the other way but PARDONING the ones responsible and being called on it, the trashing of our civil rights and the sale of our voice to Big Media and Big Telecomm, corruption run rampant, Profiteering in Iraq, which is also the war that was started with a Republican Lie, the Foley Scandal, and other delights the Republican Party has subjected us to over the last six years, voters are fed up. Add to that the ability of the Internet to focus voter attention on Republican perfidy, thievery, and influence peddling, and it makes for a lot of grumbling. And the scandals keep coming out, which make it tough to believe the Republican song and dance about cleaning up their own house.
The most recent one is Colorado Rep. Bob Beauprez’ illegal access and use of information from the National Crime Information Center to slam his opposition in attack ads. But that is far from the only one. The last couple years have been full of this and worse.
Let’s not forget the Abramoff Scandal, which was distinctly Republican, no matter how the Elephants try to spin it. Add to that the recent resignation of one of Karl Rove’s top aides (can we say scapegoat?) and we’ve got a scandal that goes all the way to the top.
And it isn’t the ONLY scandal that ends up in the White House, lest we forget the AT&T NSA Wiretapping Scandal.
The FCC scandal over deliberately suppressed documents showing Big Media Mergers to be against the Public Interest, which has received scant attention in the very Press it will affect, has blown across the blogosphere and resulted in over 1000 people attending meetings in LA on the subject, with only one voice supporting the mergers out of all the people who showed up. There’s another meeting in less than an hour at Hunter College in NYC, with Adelstein and Copps, the two Democratic members of the FCC. I’m sure a similar outcome will result there, since the African American and Hispanic Communities have already said they will be out in full force. This coupled with the recent brouhaha over the AT&T BellSouth merger that Martin, the FCC Chairman, supports, has made many otherwise complacent middle of the roaders and swing voters hopping mad.
How about all the Profiteering going on? Haliburton, CACI, Titan, Bechtel, Parsons, Blackwater, DHB, AT&T . . . much of it traceable back to Dick Cheney. And we all realize by now that the War in Iraq was for no reason other than to allow the Good Ol’ Boy Network to profit.
Then there’s the tone of the Election Ads this year. Many are dirty, many are jaundiced in a way that only Republican and Big Business interests can make them, though I feel ads like this will show just how low Republicans have sunk, and end up having an effect opposite the one they’re aiming for.
Though I wouldn’t underestimate him, Karl Rove has his work cut out for him. One can only hope that something turns up in the still ongoing Abramoff investigation that stops him in his tracks.
