Taking a HARD look at the Business of Politics

The Plog Politicians love to hate.

Thank you, Senators Kerry and Durbin

In a time when We, The People, are feeling very frustrated since it seems our voice is not being heard in Washington by the folks who are supposedly there to represent US and our interests and not just the interests of US MegaCorporations and War Profiteers (some of whom, like AT&T, are both), it’s a pleasant surprise when there are members of Congress who do engage in a dialog with the individual people who will be directly affected by any legislation proposed, and who show that they’re actually paying attention and have done their homework (unlike Senator Stevens of Internet Tubes fame.)

So I wanted to send out a heartfelt Thank You to both Senators Durbin and Kerry.

Senator Durbin opened a dialog with the Tech Community about future Telecommunications Policy a couple months back. And Senator Kerry is now blogging Telecomm Policy on the Save the Internet Blog.

Both of these Senators, by their thoughtful responses to the dialogs they’ve started, have shown that they have studied the issue in question and have a thorough knowledge of what mistakes have been made and where the Law of Unintended Consequences kicked in bigtime. They both realize that our present Telecomm Policy is woefully broken and favors the thieving Telecomms over the interests of US citizens by treating the Internet as a deregulated free market information service instead of the common carrier utility it should be. My biggest hope is that they can push through the halls of Congress meaningful reform to our broken Telecomm Policy. It’s time for US policymakers to see that doing what’s best for US MegaCorporations is not the same as doing what’s best for the Country and the US Economy. Senators Durbin and Kerry are showing that they get it, and using this fabulous tool of democracy called The Internet to share democratic dialog, something that currently flawed policy could kill, if the Telecomms have their monopolistic and censoring way.
